We’ve all been there. You’re sitting in session with a client, who begins to speak about disordered eating patterns and how it is affecting them emotionally. You pause because you thought your client’s presenting issue was something completely different. If you get it, then this training is exactly what you need. This is an in-person training, facilitated by Dr. Marcuetta Sims. She will iron out ways to effectively diagnose and treat clients with eating disorders, particularly when working with clients of color.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? This training is geared toward mental health providers, in private and public sectors. This includes, but is not limited to, therapists who work in private practice, in-patient facilities, residential, and/or community agencies.

ABOUT THE TRAINER: Dr. Marcuetta Sims is the CEO + Founder of The Wisdom, Worth, & Wellness Center, which is a mental health safe-space for the Black woman. Dr. Sims has a passion for teaching her clients how to listen to their inner voices and discover their inherent worth. This often brings up disordered eating patterns and unhealthy relationships with foods, dieting, and body image. This training will include cultural considerations for understanding, diagnosing, and treating eating disorders.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

  • Assess for symptoms of eating disorders, particularly when that is not the presenting concern

  • Identify cultural factors that impact the presentation of eating disorders

  • Establishing and maintaining body and emotion regulation

  • Identify the 5 levels of care when treating eating disorders

  • Design effective, evidence-based treatment plans for treating eating disorders and disordered eating

  • Identify when additional support is needed and design plans to collaborate with accordingly
